Associate Professor, Clinical Pediatrics
My primary research interests include childhood nutritional issues. Developed research interest in pediatric HIV and then became more interested in general pediatric issues - primarily breastfeeding. For the last decade, I have been primarily focused on making breastfeeding safer for HIV infected women in the developing world by home pasteurization of breast milk. We have studied the acceptability and safety of this method and are currently completing work on feasibility. I am planning a clinical trial of infant outcomes with respect to growth and morbidity. I am also interested in micronutrient deficiencies in children and have done a limited amount of work in iron and vitamin D deficiency.
