2018 Fellowships awarded to Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology Students

Nutrition Department Fellowships were recently awarded to five students in the Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology.

  • Ashley Tovar was awarded the 2018 Rucker Family Fellowship. Tovar's major professor is Dr. Gretchen Casazza and her research interests include endocrine, metabolic, and performance alterations occurring in athletes experiencing low energy availability. The Rucker Family Fellowship is available to graduate students in the GGNB who are in good standing, pursuing either a M.S. or Ph.D. degree, show future promise, and must be doing research in nutritional biochemistry.
  • Gwen Chodur was awarded the 2018 Kirvin Knox Fellowship. Chodur's major professor is Dr. Francene Steinberg and her research interests include nutrigenomic interactions between diet and disease pathophysiology. The Kirvin Knox Nutritional Biology Fellowship is awarded to graduate students in the GGNB who are in good standing, pursuing either a M.S. or Ph.D. degree and show future promise.
  • Lauren Brink and Allison Stevens Bardagjy were awarded 2018 Mar Family Dissertation Year Fellowships. Lauren Brink's major professor is Dr. Bo Lonnerdal and her research interests include studying milk fat globule membrane and its role in infant development. Bardagjy's major professor is Dr. Francene Steinberg and her research interests include antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of bioactive food components; impact of dietary interventions on lipoprotein metabolism; applications of biotechnology in health and nutrition. The Mar Family Nutritional Biology Fellowship is awarded to graduate students in the GGNB who are in good standing, with preference for Ph.D. degree, and who are in their final dissertation quarter or year.
